How are hybrid work schedules impacting programme offerings?

We asked 347 global employers about how hybrid work schedules are impacting health and wellbeing (H&W) offerings.

Which of the following types of H&W management programmes/activities do you currently offer? What percentage of your eligible workforce participates?

On average, companies offer 7 programmes, about the same number of programmes as last year. The popularity of several of the most-offered programmes has risen, including H&W website/portal, up 24%, wellness coaching, up 38%, and Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs), up 27%.

In 2022, the five most-offered programmes included: H&W website/portal – 42%; wellness coaching – 40%; health risk assessments – 39%; EAPs – 38%; and gym membership discounts – 35%. The programmes with highest participation rates were: near-site medical clinic – 33% and gym membership discounts – 32%. Flu shots, financial wellbeing and case management all had 31% participation rates.

Although you don’t currently offer the following H&W programmes, which would your company consider offering in the next 3 years?

Global employers are considering offering a variety of virtual and on-site H&W offerings.

From 2020 to 2022, employers said they would consider offering new programs in the next 3 years, including: virtual telemed – 23%, in both 2021 and 2022; health biometric screenings – 22% said they would consider it in 2020, 16% in 2021 and 23% in 2022; health/fitness challenges – 16% said they would consider it in 2020, 18% in 2021 and 22% in 2022; virtual fitness offerings – 17% said they would consider it in in 2021 and 22% in 2022; and, access to an on-site health specialist – 16% said they would consider it in both 2020 and 2021, while 21% said they would consider it in 2022.

Which, if any, of these onsite health services are part of your wellness strategy today?

As employees return to the office, companies are reviving on-site health services.

Over the last 3 years, employers have offered on-site health services, including: health promotion/wellness coordinator – 55% in 2020, 54% in 2021 and 63% in 2022; nutrition counseling – 50% in 2020, 51% in 2021 and 59% in 2022; EAP counseling – 33% in 2020, 22% in 2021 and 29% in 2022; and, health advocacy service – 19% in 2020, 17% in 2021 and 23% in 2022.
